Oto komunikat Feldona z forum Vanguarda:

Are you passionate about wanting to preserve the Vanguard forums? Do you have some knowledge of installing and running forum software like vBulletin? Do you have some web hosting space that allows PHP/MySQL scripts?

I have developed an automated PHP script that will harvest the threads and posts from an SOE Forum and write the data directly into a vBulletin database. Without too much difficulty, it should be possible to alter the script to work with other software like phpBB or SMF.

I just did a count and here’s the stats I see on the Vanguard forums:

  • Threads: 40,183

Based on the import speeds I’ve been seeing on the EQ2 forums, I estimate it would take about 52-72 hours of continuous harvesting to capture the entire Vanguard forums into another forum database.

If you think you are up to the task of preserving Telon’s history, please send me an e-mail at morgan (at) eq2wire.com.

A tu jest informacja Feldona z forum Everquest:

When I heard that existing forums would be archived and then eventually lost, I developed a „SOE Forum Harvester” script that iterates through SOE forum threads one by one and grabs all the posts and writes them to a vBulletin forum database. I am currently running this script on the EQ2 forums.

If there is someone out there who is interested in archiving the EQ forums, please send me an e-mail at savetheforums (at) eq2wire.com and I will be happy to share the script. I have not tested my script with EQ, but I made the script game-agnostic so it should be easy to port it if necessary. Also, if you wanted to import into phpBB, SMF, or some other software, the script can be modified to do that without too much difficulty.
